Functional Lab Testing and Your Health

Your blood makes up about approximately 8% of your body weight.  Analyzing the components of your blood through lab testing can tell a story about your overall health and give clues to the cause of your health complaints. From a functional and preventative point of view, blood work can help to identify factors that are stimulating allergic reactions, preventing healing, causing pain, decreasing immune function, lowering mood, increasing fatigue, and leading to potentially serious chronic diseases later in life

Periodic lab work is also an objective method in conjunction with other examination techniques to track progress of your treatment plan and your personal health goals.  With all my patients, even those coming in for general wellness care, I recommend blood work at least once per year. The frequency, breadth, and specificity of the blood work vary depending on age, history, health complaints, and exam findings.

It is amazing to see the dramatic improvement in a patient’s energy, performance, and well being after identifying and addressing some the root causes of their health concerns. It is also a relief for patients when they see their body chemistry improve towards optimal ranges over time, giving them a peace of mind that they are on their way to a healthier and longer life.
